Gumroad fees on common prices
Direct sale with card processing, Discover sale at 30%, and the same sale through a Stripe Payment Link on your own page (2.9% + 30¢). Sales tax is collected on top and not included:

Every Gumroad fee, plainly
- Direct sales, 10% + $0.50 per transaction, for sales through your Gumroad profile or links you share. Card processing of 2.9% + $0.30 is charged on top, and PayPal payments carry PayPal's fees instead.
- Discover sales, 30% flat, when a new customer finds and buys from you through Gumroad's marketplace. Processing is included.
- High-volume rate, 5% + $0.50, on new direct sales once your paid sales in a calendar month pass $20,000. It resets on the 1st.
- No monthly fee, and refunds return Gumroad's own fee on the refunded part; the processing part is kept.

How much does Gumroad take from a sale?
For a sale through your own profile or a direct link, Gumroad charges 10% + $0.50, and card processing of 2.9% + $0.30 is charged on top, per Gumroad's help center (checked October 27, 2026). On a $20 product that's about $3.38 in total fees, so you keep about $16.62. Sales that come from Gumroad's Discover marketplace pay a flat 30% instead, which includes processing.
Does Gumroad charge a monthly fee?
No. Gumroad has no monthly fee; it only takes a cut of each sale.
What is the Gumroad Discover fee?
When a new customer finds and buys your product through Gumroad's Discover marketplace, Gumroad charges a flat 30% of the sale, which includes payment processing. Sales from your own links and profile pay the lower direct rate.
Is there a cheaper Gumroad rate for bigger sellers?
Yes. Once your paid sales in a calendar month reach $20,000, new direct sales that month are charged 5% + $0.50 instead of 10% + $0.50. It resets on the 1st of each month, and Discover sales stay at 30%. Tick the box in the calculator to see that rate.
Does Gumroad handle sales tax?
Yes. Gumroad has been the merchant of record since January 1, 2025, so it collects and remits sales tax and VAT on your sales. That's a real part of what the higher fee pays for; with your own Stripe checkout, tax is your job unless you add a tax product.
Is it cheaper to sell on my own site than on Gumroad?
Per sale, usually: a Stripe Payment Link costs 2.9% + 30¢ for a US card, with no platform fee. You give up Gumroad's hosting, delivery and tax handling, and Discover's chance of buyers you didn't bring. The table in the calculator shows the gap for your price.
