Etsy listing fee vs transaction fee, explained
Etsy charges two different fees that sound alike. The listing fee is a flat $0.20 to publish a listing for 4 months, charged whether or not it sells. The transaction fee is 6.5% of each order (item price plus any postage and gift wrap), charged only when something sells. A third one, payment processing (3% + $0.25 in the US), is also charged on every sale. Rates checked on Etsy's fee pages on October 30, 2026.

On cheap items the flat parts (listing $0.20 + processing $0.25) dominate; on expensive items the percentages do. At $2 the flat $0.45 is 22.5% of the price; at $50 it's 0.9%.

Fees per order = listing fee + 6.5% transaction + processing % and fixed fee + Regulatory Operating fee (UK, France, Italy, Spain) + Offsite Ads where selected, then VAT on that total for UK/EU shops without a VAT ID.
