What Etsy actually keeps from a digital download at every price, $1 to $50 (2026)

Five takeaways
- Below about $4.29, Etsy takes more than 20% of a US download's price. At $1 it's 55% (you keep $0.45); at $3 it's 24%; at $10 it's 14%. UK shops cross 20% at about £6.16 and German shops at about €7.62.
- The fixed part is what hurts cheap listings. A US sale always pays $0.45 in flat fees ($0.20 listing + $0.25 processing) before any percentage, so below $4.50 those flat fees alone are more than 10% of the price.
- A small price rise adds more than you'd think. Moving a US download from $5 to $7 keeps $1.80 more per sale (44% more: $4.08 to $5.88), because the flat fees don't grow with the price.
- UK and EU shops pay VAT on Etsy's fees unless they've added a VAT ID, so the same price keeps less: £10 keeps £8.26 in the UK and €10 keeps €8.18 in Germany, against $8.60 in the US. Even at high prices the fee share never drops below about 9.5% (US), 13.2% (UK) or 12.5% (Germany).
- An Offsite Ads sale costs much more. A $10 US download keeps $8.60 normally but $7.10 when the buyer came through an Etsy offsite ad (29% in fees). You only pay it on those sales; your Shop Stats show how many there were.

Method
For each price P (in the shop's own currency, no shipping, digital item): fees = (listing fee + 6.5% × P + processing % × P + fixed processing fee + Regulatory Operating fee % × P + Offsite Ads % × P, where counted) × (1 + VAT rate on fees). You keep P − fees. Offsite Ads are capped at $100 / £75 / €90 per order, which no price here reaches.
Not included: sales tax or VAT the buyer pays (Etsy collects and remits it), the 2.5% currency conversion fee (only if your listing currency differs from your bank's), Etsy Ads (on-site ads) spend, the one-time shop set-up fee, and payout or subscription fees. Fixed USD fees are converted at the ECB reference rate of Oct 27, 2026. These are estimates from published rates; your Etsy payment account shows the final fees.
