Etsy fees on physical items (with shipping)
US seller, no Offsite Ads sale. Etsy takes its 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 processing on the item price plus the shipping you charge, so shipping raises your fees. "Keep" is before your postage, packaging and materials:

Etsy fees in the UK (GBP)
A UK seller paid in pounds pays a £0.15 listing fee (Etsy bills it as $0.20 USD, so it moves with the exchange rate), a 6.5% transaction fee, payment processing of 4% + £0.20, and a 0.48% Regulatory Operating fee, each on the item price plus the postage you charge. Without a VAT ID on your Etsy account, Etsy adds 20% VAT to those fees. Worked examples, no Offsite Ads sale (click a row to open it in the calculator):

Example, a £10 download with no VAT ID: £0.15 listing + £0.65 transaction + £0.60 processing (4% of £10 + £0.20) + £0.05 Regulatory Operating fee = £1.45, plus £0.29 VAT = about £1.74, so you keep about £8.26. Open the UK calculator with these numbers.
Etsy fees in the EU (EUR)
Sellers paid in euros pay 4% + €0.30 payment processing, the same 6.5% transaction fee and a listing fee of about €0.18 ($0.20 USD at the October 27, 2026 ECB rate). France (1.14%), Italy (0.80%), Spain (0.88%) and Hungary (1.97%) add a Regulatory Operating fee. Without a VAT ID, Etsy adds your country's VAT to its fees (Ireland: always). Total Etsy fees, no VAT ID, no Offsite Ads:

How much does it cost to open an Etsy shop?
There is no monthly fee for a standard Etsy shop. Many new sellers now pay a one-time, non-refundable shop set-up fee: Etsy's Seller Handbook introduced it at $15 for some new shops, and Etsy's help centre says the amount varies by location and is shown during set-up before you pay, plus tax where it applies. After that, each listing costs $0.20 (£0.15 on Etsy UK) for four months or until it sells, and the per-sale fees above apply only when you make a sale. Etsy Ads and Etsy Plus are optional.
Every Etsy fee on a digital download
- Listing fee, $0.20. Charged when a listing is published and again each time it auto-renews, including after every sale of a multi-quantity listing. For a download that sells over and over, treat it as $0.20 per sale.
- Transaction fee, 6.5% of the price you display. Downloads have no shipping, so it's just the item price.
- Payment processing, 3% + $0.25 for US bank accounts, charged on the full amount the buyer pays. Other countries pay different rates (most of the EU is 4% + €0.30, the UK 4% + £0.20).
- Regulatory Operating fee in some countries only: UK 0.48%, France 1.14%, Italy 0.80%, Spain 0.88%, Hungary 1.97%, Canada 0.50%.
- VAT on fees for UK and EU shops without a VAT ID on Etsy (20% in the UK).
- Offsite Ads, 15% or 12%, only on orders that came from an Etsy ad shown off Etsy, capped at $100 per order.
- Currency conversion, 2.5%, only if your listing currency differs from your payment account currency.

What are Etsy's fees on a digital download?
For a US seller with no Offsite Ads sale: a $0.20 listing fee (charged again each time a multi-quantity listing renews after a sale), a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price, and Etsy Payments processing of 3% + $0.25. On a $10 download that's about $1.40, so you keep about $8.60. Rates checked on Etsy's own fee pages on October 27, 2026.
How much does Etsy take from a sale?
For a US seller on a sale that didn't come from Offsite Ads, Etsy takes about 9.5% of the order (6.5% transaction fee plus 3% payment processing) plus $0.45 per sale ($0.20 listing fee and the $0.25 processing fee). On a $25 item with no shipping that's about $2.83, so you keep about $22.17; on a $25 item with $5 shipping it's $3.30, so you keep $26.70. Add 15% (or 12%) more when a sale comes from Offsite Ads.
How much does Etsy charge on a $10, $20 or $50 sale?
With US rates, no shipping and no Offsite Ads: a $10 sale costs about $1.40 in Etsy fees (you keep $8.60), a $20 sale about $2.35 (you keep $17.65) and a $50 sale about $5.20 (you keep $44.80). The fixed $0.45 per sale is why cheap items lose a bigger share: 14% at $10 versus about 10% at $50.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
On physical items, yes: the 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing both apply to the item price plus the shipping you charge, so enter your shipping charge in the calculator. No shipping is charged on an instant download, so there the 6.5% transaction fee applies to the item price only. The payment processing fee is charged on the total the buyer pays, which can include sales tax Etsy collects.
What is the Offsite Ads fee?
If a sale comes from a click on an ad Etsy ran for your listing off Etsy, you pay an extra 15% of the order (12% if your shop made more than $10,000 in the last 12 months, when the program becomes mandatory). It's capped at $100 per order. Most small digital orders never get near the cap.
Is it cheaper to sell digital downloads on my own site?
Per sale, usually yes: Stripe's US standard rate is 2.9% + 30¢ with no listing fee. But Etsy brings buyers who are already searching, and your own site brings none until you send people there. Many sellers use both: Etsy for discovery and their own checkout for repeat buyers and email subscribers.
How much are Etsy fees in the UK?
For a UK seller paid in pounds: a £0.15 listing fee (billed as $0.20 USD), a 6.5% transaction fee, payment processing of 4% + £0.20, and a 0.48% Regulatory Operating fee, all on the item price plus postage. If you haven't given Etsy a VAT ID, Etsy also charges 20% VAT on those fees. On a £10 sale that's £1.74 in fees with VAT (you keep £8.26) or £1.45 without VAT; on a £20 sale £3.06 (you keep £16.94); on a £25 item with £4 postage £4.24 (you keep £24.76). How much does it cost to open an Etsy shop?
There is no monthly fee for a standard shop. I'm not in the US. Does this work?
Yes. Pick United Kingdom (GBP) or EU (EUR) at the top of the calculator and it switches to Etsy's published rates for that country: payment processing (4% + £0.20 in the UK, 4% + €0.30 in euro countries), the Regulatory Operating fee where Etsy charges one (UK 0.48%, France 1.14%, Italy 0.80%, Spain 0.88%), and VAT on Etsy's fees if you haven't added a VAT ID. Other countries can type their own processing rate under Change the rates, and tick the 2.5% currency conversion fee if your listing currency differs from your bank's.
Do I pay VAT on Etsy fees?
In the UK and most of the EU, yes, unless you've added a VAT ID to your Etsy account: Etsy then adds VAT at your country's rate (20% in the UK) to its seller fees, including payment processing, and sends a monthly VAT invoice. Shops in Ireland are charged VAT on fees whether or not they have a VAT ID. US sellers don't pay VAT on Etsy fees.
What is Etsy's Regulatory Operating fee?
A small extra percentage Etsy charges sellers in some countries on the item price plus postage and gift wrap: 0.48% in the UK, 1.14% in France, 0.80% in Italy, 0.88% in Spain and 1.97% in Hungary (rates from June 22, 2026), and 0.50% in Canada. US sellers don't pay it. VAT applies on top where you pay VAT on fees.
